JDU Leader Anant Singh Arrested in Dularchand Yadav Murder Case in Bihar

A major development has emerged in Bihar ahead of the upcoming 2025 assembly elections. JD(U) candidate Anant Singh has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of Jan Suraaj supporter Dularchand Yadav. Police have named him the main accused in the case, which has triggered political tension in the state.

Investigation and Arrests

The incident took place on October 30 during a clash between rival groups in Mokama, where Singh is contesting from the JD(U) ticket. Dularchand Yadav was killed during the firing.

Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma said that along with Singh, two of his associates, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram, have also been arrested. He added that the investigation indicates Singh was present at the time of the shooting.

"Based on evidence, eyewitness accounts, and the postmortem report of the deceased, it appears that the Model Code of Conduct was violated, and it is a serious issue," the SSP told ANI.

Family Welcomes Police Action

Dularchand Yadav's nephew and Jan Suraaj Party's Mokama candidate, Piyush Priyadarshi, called the arrest a welcome step. He said it has brought some comfort to the family after days of anxiety.

"Today, he (Anant Singh) was moving around in a convoy of 50 vehicles and even participated in election campaigning. When an FIR was registered against him, he should have been arrested sooner... But better late than never. What is important now is how the police investigate the whole case... It is a relief for his family," Piyush told ANI.

Anant Singh is a well-known figure in Mokama's political circle and faces strong competition from Piyush Priyadarshi and RJD candidate Veena Devi, wife of former MP Surajbhan Singh.

Sequence of Events

Reports suggest that Dularchand Yadav, a former gangster who had turned to politics, was campaigning for his nephew when he was attacked in Basavanchak village. He was shot inside his vehicle and later run over during the chaos.

The violence reportedly began when the convoy of Priyadarshi came close to the one led by Anant Singh. When Dularchand tried to stop the confrontation, he was shot.

Anant Singh Denies Allegations

After the killing, Anant Singh denied any role in the incident. He accused Surajbhan Singh of being behind the violence.

"Our vehicles were also vandalised. This whole game is of Surajbhan. He had kept Dularchand with him. Dularchand used to stay with him," Anant Singh said.

The case has once again highlighted the intense political rivalry and rising tension in Mokama as the state heads toward elections.
