Jayasudha Joins BJP: Know All About The Actress-Turned-Politician

Telugu actress-turned-politician Jayasudha is the latest celebrity from Andhra to join the BJP.

The former Congress MLA joined the saffron party in the presence of Telangana party affairs incharge Tarun Chugh and state chief G Kishan Reddy in Delhi.

Jayasudha, who represented Secunderabad as Congress MLA in combined Andhra Pradesh, was welcomed into the party by Telangana party affairs incharge Tarun Chugh and state chief G Kishan Reddy in Delhi on Wednesday.

Who is Jayasudha?

In a career spanning over five decades, Jayasudha has also worked in a few Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi films.

Born on 17 December 1958 in Madras, Tamil Nadu, Jayasudha's birth name is Sujatha Nidudavolu. Her family, hailing from a Telugu-speaking background, includes her father Nidudavolu Rameshwara Rao and her mother, the renowned actress Joga Bai, acclaimed for her roles in films such as 'Balanandam' (1954) and 'Kalahasti Mahatyam' (1954). Vijaya Nirmala, a prominent figure in Telugu cinema as an actress and director, is her father's first cousin. Notably, Jayasudha's paternal grandfather is the distinguished scholar and literary historian Nidudavolu Venkatarao.

At the age of thirteen, Jayasudha took her initial steps into the world of cinema through the Telugu movie "Pandanti Kapuram" (1972). Legendary filmmaker K Balachander cast her in a minor role in Tamil film 'Arangetram' where she shared the screen with Kamal Haasan.

She then worked in numerous films in both Telugu and Tamil such as 'Sollathaan Ninaikkiren' (1973), 'Naan Avanillai' (1974), and 'Apoorva Raagangal', as well as 'Idi Katha Kaadu' alongside Chiranjeevi. As there was another actress with the same name, she rechristened herself as Jayasudha.

She made her debut as a heroine in Telugu film 'Lakshmana Rekha' (1975). Thereafter, there was no looking back as she went on to work in successful movies like: 'Jyothi' (1976), 'Idi Katha Kaadu' (1979), 'Premabhishekam' (1981), 'Meghasandesam' (1982), and 'Dharmaatmudu' (1983).

In 2009, she was elected as MLA from the Secunderabad constituency from Indian National Congress. However, she later joined the Telugu Desam Party in 2016. Later in 2019 she quit the Telugu Desam Party and joined YSR Congress Party.
