Jayanthi Natarajan resigns as MoS, will work for the party
New Delhi, Dec 21: Union minister of state for forests and environment Jayanthi Natarajan resigned from the cabinet on Saturday. Jayanthi will focus on strengthening Congress party ahead of 2014 Lok Sabha polls, sources said.

Veerappa Moily, Union minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has been given additional charge as MoS for Forests and Environment. Reportedly, Rahul Gandhi wanted Jayanthi Natarajan to work for the party ahead of the elections. President Pranab Mukherjee has accepted her resignation.

More ministers to quit?

Sources say that several other ministers are also planning to quit for party work ahead of the polls. Congress party is going through a major organisational rejig ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Rahul Gandhi, who is heading the party's poll campaign, has reportedly asked minister like RPN Singh, Jairam Ramesh and Sachin Pilot to quit cabinet and work for the party. Senior ministers like P Chidambaram and AK Antony will remain in the cabinet.
