Jayalalithaa’s health and rumour: Total arrest reaches seven
As Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's medical ailments remain a "secret", rumour-mongers are having a field day spreading lies on social media.
In order to put to rest all the rumours surrounding the Chief Minister's health, the Chennai police is leaving no stone unturned.
According to reports, one more person was arrested for allegedly spreading rumours on Jayalalithaa's health on social media on Saturday.
With the latest arrest, the total number of persons taken into custody in Tamil Nadu in this regard has gone up to seven and cases booked so far has reached 50.
Antony Jesuraj, a 24-year old man from Tuticorin district, was arrested for allegedly posting rumours on social media on Jayalalithaa's health.
"We had served him a notice. After a thorough enquiry, we arrested him," informed a police official.
The arrest follows a complaint from S Chandru, a functionary of ruling AIADMK's IT Wing.
So far, a total of 50 cases have been registered in connection with posting false rumours on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and WhatsApp.
Efforts are on to remove such content and apprehend the culprits, the police official added.
Ever since Jayalalithaa (68) has been admitted to Apollo Hospital at Greams Road, Chennai, her health has been subject to countless rumours, speculation and even fake pictures spread through social media. She is undergoing treatment at the hospital since September 22.
