Chennai, Dec 6: J Jayalalithaa who passed away at 11.30 PM on Monday will be put to rest near the MGR Samadhi at Marina in Chennai at 4:30 PM today.

Ministers were seen sitting on the steps outside the Rajaji Hall while large crowds thronged the venue to pay their last respects to the departed leader.

Early this morning the motorcade carrying the mortal remains of Jayalalithaa draped in the Triclour was taken to the Rajaji Hall from her residence at Poes Garden.
The situation in Chennai and the rest of the state has been by and large peaceful.
The police had to however resort to a mild lathi charge as supporters tried to picket barricades outside Poes Garden.
