Jayalalithaa launches e-Seva centres in Chennai

Chennai, Jan 12: e-seva centres, through which people can get a host of services closer to their respective localities, were launched across the city by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today.

The services were set up at a cost of Rs 1.95 crore. The Chief Minister had announced in the 2014-15 budget that her government would launch e-Seva centres offering a host of services.

A pilot launch was made in the city in in 14 e-seva centres on February 24, 2014. Through such e-Seva centres, 1.15 crore people have benefitted so far, an official release said.

As part of formally implementing the scheme, Jayalailthaa formally launched 126 e-Seva centres across Chennai through video conferencing facility from the Secretariat. Various government services like payment of property tax, birth or death certificates can be availed of from the centres, the release said.

It said the Centres would also accept cash payment of electricity bills. IT Minister 'Mukkur' N Subramanian, Chief Secretary K Gnanadesikan, Advisor to Government Sheila Balakrishnan were among those present on the occasion.
