After Losing Son Jaspal Rana's Mother Shyama Devi Rana Passes Away At 78 In Delhi Hospital

The 78-year-old mother of renowned shooter and coach Jaspal Rana has passed away at an Army hospital in Delhi. It is learnt that Shyama Devi Rana was devastated by her son's death and passed away while undergoing treatment.

Shyama Devi Rana, the wife of former Sports Minister and Dronacharya Award recipient Narayan Singh Rana, was undergoing treatment in critical condition at a hospital in New Delhi. She had been suffering from a prolonged illness.

Who Was Jaspal Rana?

Born on June 28, 1976, in Uttarakhand, Jaspal Rana was among India's most successful pistol shooters and a familiar name in the country's shooting circles for more than three decades. He took up shooting under the guidance of his father Narayan Singh Rana. What began as training under his father soon turned into a successful international career that saw him win several medals for India.

After retiring from active competition, Rana remained associated with the sport as a coach and mentor.

Jaspal Rana's introduction to shooting came through his father, Narayan Singh Rana, a war veteran who later became the first Sports Minister of Uttarakhand after the state's formation in 2000.

His father was also his first coach and played a crucial role in building his shooting career.

The family shared a strong sporting background. His sister, Sushma Singh Rana, and brother, Subhash Rana, are both accomplished shooters. Sushma is also related to the family of senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh through marriage.
