Japanese PM: Russia-Ukraine Conflict Shakes G20 Cooperation, Global Economy
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida states that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is shaking the foundation of cooperation at the G20. He highlights its impact on world economy through factors like rising food and energy prices. The statement was made in context to India’s presidency declaration at the recent G20 summit.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, in a recent media briefing, expressed his concerns over the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its impact on the G20 cooperation. He stressed that such aggressive actions are threatening the very essence of collaboration among nations at this global platform. The statement came on September 10th, during his visit to New Delhi.
Kishida's Take on G20 Leaders' Declaration

The Japanese leader acknowledged the significance of the G20 leaders' declaration which was unveiled under India's presidency. He termed it as a truly meaningful achievement. The declaration emphasized respect for territorial integrity of all states - an aspect that has been violated by Russia in its aggression against Ukraine.
According to Kishida, all members of G20 have underscored the need for a just and durable peace in Ukraine. This collective stand reflects their shared understanding of international law and commitment towards upholding it.
Russian Aggression: Impacting Global Economy
Kishida also drew attention to how Russia’s aggression is causing significant disruptions to the world economy through factors like protracted rise in food and energy prices. Amidst already complex crises worldwide, he noted that these developments further underscored why collaboration at platforms such as G20 is becoming increasingly important today.
G20’s Stand Against War
The declaration issued at last year's Bali summit had deplored Russian aggression against Ukraine in strongest terms while most members strongly condemned war practices. It signifies G20's unanimous rejection of any form of aggression or conflict that undermines peace and stability globally.
G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration: A Focus on Wars & Conflicts
The recently released 'G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration', however, only refers to war in Ukraine but expresses deep concern over the immense human suffering and adverse impacts of wars and conflicts around the world. The declaration, therefore, serves a dual purpose: it not only highlights the current crisis in Ukraine but also underscores the broader implications of war on humanity.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Kishida's statements underscore Japan’s commitment to international peace and cooperation. His remarks also highlight how vital global platforms like G20 are for fostering dialogue and collaboration among nations to address pressing issues such as territorial disputes and economic crises. As the world continues to grapple with complex challenges, it is hoped that these platforms will facilitate constructive engagement towards achieving durable solutions.
