Unprecedented Agricultural Drone Demo Thrills Farmers in Jammu's Raghuchak Village
In a first-of-its-kind event, residents of Raghuchak village witnessed an agricultural drone demonstration organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Over 150 farmers attended the live demo where they learned about the benefits of using drones for spraying pesticides and monitoring crop health.
The residents of Raghuchak village in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir recently witnessed an unprecedented event - a demonstration of agricultural drones. This demonstration was conducted by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, affiliated to Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST). The event marked a significant departure from the usual drone-related activities in this border district, which typically involve security agencies educating locals about enemy drones coming from across the border.
Agricultural Drones: A New Chapter

Sher-e-Kashmir University's Chief Scientist Prof Sanjay Khajuria explained that this initiative is part of a project sponsored by the Indian government. "The government has given us this project specifically for the Jammu region," he said. "The aim is to make people aware about these agricultural drones in these 10 districts." Over 150 progressive farmers attended the live demonstration, indicating considerable interest in this new technology.
Functionality and Advantages
Ranjit Singh, a drone engineer involved with this project, elaborated on how such unmanned aerial vehicles work. According to him, you simply have to fill it with water and load a map into its system. Once initiated, it can complete tasks like pesticide spraying within six to seven minutes before returning back to its original location. Moreover, he added that one could also use it to monitor crop health.
The attending farmers were visibly excited about this new development as they saw firsthand how effectively these drones could save time and labor while ensuring comprehensive coverage of their fields without them having to physically traverse them repeatedly. They seemed eager at prospect of being able to manage their crops more efficiently using such advanced technology.
Conclusion
In conclusion, introducing agricultural drones appears as an innovative step towards modernising farming practices in India’s Jammu region. By harnessing the power of technology, farmers can improve productivity and efficiency in their agricultural activities. The successful demonstration at Raghuchak village has set a positive precedent, potentially paving the way for further adoption of this technology across other regions in India. This initiative also serves as an example of how technological advancements can be utilised to uplift traditional sectors like agriculture, thus contributing to overall economic development.
