Abdullah stated, "The legislature party will meet tomorrow at 12:30 PM to elect their leader," as reported by PTI. After this internal election, he mentioned that the alliance partners would also meet to elect their leader in the House. The final step will be to approach the Raj Bhavan to stake their claim for government formation and request the lieutenant governor to schedule a swearing-in ceremony. Abdullah expressed optimism that the new government would be in place within the next few days.

In this election, the NC contested 51 of the total 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir, allocating 32 to its ally, the Congress party. The CPI(M) and the Panthers Party received one seat each, and both senior partners engaged in a 'friendly' contest in five additional seats.

Emerging as the single-largest party, the National Conference secured 42 seats, including victories in two constituencies for Omar Abdullah himself. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) followed with 29 seats, while the Congress managed to win six and the CPI(M) one. Overall, the alliance won 49 seats, surpassing the majority threshold of 46.

Omar Abdullah, a former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, is expected to be named the legislature party leader for both the NC and its alliance partners, potentially paving the way for his return as chief minister.

The Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, which took place on September 18, 25, and October 1, marked the first assembly polls in the region in a decade, signaling a significant political shift in the Union territory.
