Jammu & Kashmir Assembly Elections: PDP Announces List Of Candidates; Iltija Mufti To Make Political Debut

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its initial list of candidates for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Among the prominent names is Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who will be contesting from the Bijbehara Assembly segment.

Other candidates fielded by the PDP include Ab Rehman Veeri for Anantnag East, Sartaj Ahmad Madani for Devsar, Dr Mehboob Beg for Anantnag, Gh Nabi Lone Hanjura for Charisharief, Gh Mohi-ud-din Wani for Watchi, Waheed-ur Rehman Parra for Pulwama, and Rafiq Ahmad Naik for Tral.

Jammu and Kashmir Elections Schedule

The elections in Jammu and Kashmir will occur in three phases. The first phase is scheduled for September 18, followed by the second phase on September 25, and the third phase on October 1. The vote counting will take place on October 4, with the entire election process concluding by October 6.

In the first phase, constituencies such as Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Kokernag, Anantnag West, Anantnag, Shangus-Anantnag East, Pahalgam, Kishtwar, Doda, Doda West, and Ramban will go to the polls.

Second Phase Constituencies

The second phase of voting includes constituencies like Ganderbal, Hazratbal, Lal Chowk, Eidgah, Budgam, Khansahib, Chadoora, Reasi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Nowshera, Rajouri, Surankote, Poonch Haveli and Mendhar.

Third Phase Constituencies

The third phase will cover areas such as Kupwara, Handwara, Sopore, Uri, Baramulla Gulmarg Pattan Bandipora Gurez Udhampur West Udhampur East Ramnagar Bilwara Jasrota Kathua Ramgarh Samba Jammu East RS Pura Jammu South Nagrota Jammu West Jammu North Akhnoor among other constituencies.

This election marks the first assembly polls in J&K since 2014. It follows a five-year period without an elected legislature and after the abrogation of Article 370. The Supreme Court has mandated that these elections be completed by September 30.
