Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Election Result 2024 Live streaming: Check Date, Time For Result Declaration
The counting of votes for the 90 Assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled to start Tuesday morning. This marks a significant step in establishing the union territory's first elected government since Article 370 was revoked in 2019. The election process, which took place over three phases, saw a voter turnout of 63.45%, slightly lower than the 65.52% recorded in 2014.
In this election, 873 candidates are competing for seats in the 90-member house. By Tuesday evening, the results will reveal their fate. Notable candidates include NC leader Omar Abdullah, contesting from Budgam and Ganderbal, and Sajad Gani Lone of People's Conference from Handwara and Kupwara. Other prominent figures are Pradesh Congress Committee president Tariq Hamid Karra from Batamaloo and BJP state president Ravindra Raina from Nowshera.

Additional significant contestants include AICC general secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir from Dooru, PDP leaders Waheed Para from Pulwama and Iltija Mufti from Bijbehara. Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari is running from Chanapora, while CPI(M) veteran Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami is contesting in Kulgam. Exit polls conducted on Saturday suggested an advantage for the alliance with the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir. The regional partner is anticipated to emerge as the single largest party.

Historical Context: Past Elections
The previous Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held over five phases between November 25 and December 20, 2014. During this period, voters elected 87 members to the Legislative Assembly whose term ended on January 19, 2020. The results were declared on December 23, 2014.
In contrast, the elections held in November and December of 2008 spanned seven days. This followed the collapse of a coalition government led by the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (PDP) with support from the Indian National Congress (INC). After these elections, Omar Abdullah became the state's youngest Chief Minister at age 38 when his party formed a coalition with Congress.
This election marks a pivotal moment for Jammu and Kashmir as it seeks to establish its first government since becoming a union territory. The outcome will shape its political landscape significantly.
