Jalpaiguri child trafficking: CID arrests Sashmita Ghosh

The CID team earlier on Friday arrested another DCPO Mrinal Ghosh after finding his involvement in Jalpaiguri shelter home case.

CID arrested Sashmita Ghosh, District Child Protection Officer in connection with Jalpaiguri child trafficking case in which babies and children were sold, some to foreigners, through questionable adoption deal.

Including her a total seven persons have been booked in the case. Earlier on Saturday, the Jalpaiguri district administration suspended Sashmita after she was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation to the show-cause notice.

The others arrested in this case are Debasish Chandra, a member of the district Child Welfare Committee, BJP women's wing leader Juhi Chowdhury, Chief Adoption Officer of an NGO Sonali Mondal, its chairperson Chandana Chakraborty and her brother Manas Bhowmik.

The CID is trying to trace the 17 kids and their biological parents. They are interrogating Sashmita Ghosh to dig out any information regarding these kids.
