Jaish letter threatening to kill Mamata Banerjee a hoax

Signed by some S C Das, the letter said that if Rs 50 lakh was not arranged, the West Bengal Chief Minister would be killed.

Kolkata, Dec 13: A letter threatening to kill West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee if a Rs 50 lakh pay out was not made appears to be a hoax. A letter was dashed off to the General Manager of the Eastern Railways to arrange Rs 50 lakh failing which lakhs of people would be killed.

The author of the letter claimed that he was a member of the Jaish-e-Mohammad. Signed by some S C Das, the letter said that if Rs 50 lakh was not arranged, the West Bengal Chief Minister would be killed.

Das a former employee of Doordarshan claimed that he had sheltered several members of the Jaish-e-Mohammad. He said that he had sheltered the Jaish operatives in the 50 apartments in West Bengal that he had purchased during his employment with Doordarshan. Das writes, " do not do any extra smart work or else lakhs of people at the Howrah railways will be killed," he also writes.

A thorough investigation was conducted by the officials after the letter had been received. The letter has a phone number and address and after a probe nothing was found said Aryan Mahapatra of the Eastern Railways. Another official said that the letter appears to be a hoax and may have been dashed off by some disgruntled employee.

The probe is still on and we are trying to get to the bottom of it, the official also added.
