Jaisalmer Enforces Full Blackout and Curfew Amid Rising Indo-Pak Border Tensions

Amid mounting security concerns along the India-Pakistan border, the Jaisalmer district administration has implemented strict emergency measures, including a complete blackout, market closure, and movement restrictions starting Friday evening.

The move comes in the wake of intensified border tensions, following the Indian Army's successful interception of a Pakistani drone near the international border on Thursday. On Friday morning, the discovery of a suspicious bomb-like object in Jaisalmer, accompanied by loud explosions, further raised alarm. These incidents are part of a broader pattern of Pakistani drone and missile attacks targeting military sites across Rajasthan.

As per the newly enforced directives, all commercial establishments in Jaisalmer are required to close by 5:00 PM on Friday. A complete blackout will be observed from 6:00 PM Friday until 6:00 AM Saturday, during which all residential and commercial lighting must remain off.

In addition to the blackout, vehicular movement will be entirely suspended during the night. The ban applies to all two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers. Authorities have also established a five-kilometre no-entry zone around critical defence installations. Strict enforcement has been ordered, with warnings of serious consequences for any unauthorized or suspicious activity in the restricted areas.

Travel on the Ramgarh-Tanot road will also face strict limitations. Commuters have been advised to complete their travel before the curfew comes into effect, after which the route will be sealed indefinitely. Furthermore, all types of public gatherings-including religious parades, processions, rallies, and demonstrations-have been prohibited under emergency protocols.

Residents have been urged by Additional District Magistrate Parsaram Saini to remain composed and abide by the emergency protocols. "Given the current threat scenario, these steps are essential. To ensure the district's safety and security, public collaboration is essential," he stated.

Security forces have been placed on the highest alert, and surveillance efforts have been intensified throughout the district, particularly in sensitive areas. The local administration continues to monitor the situation closely and has indicated that further actions may be taken if the security situation deteriorates.
