Jailed gangster Tillu Tajpuriya killed in Tihar jail

Delhi's Rohini court shootout accused and jailed gangster Tillu Tajpuriya was killed on Tuesday after he was attacked by rival gang members Yogesh Tunda and others in Tihar jail, ANI reported.

He was taken to Delhi's Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where he was declared dead. "Further investigation underway by Police," prison officials told the news agency.

Tillu Tajpuriya, alias Sunil, suffered multiple stab wounds. He was 33.

"Today morning at around 7 am, information was received from DDU Hospital regarding two UTPs who were brought to the hospital from Tihar Jail. One of them, Sunil alias Tilu was brought in an unconscious state. He was later declared brought dead. Another person, Rohit is undergoing treatment and is out of danger," ANI quoted Akshat Kaushal, Additional DCP West District, Delhi Police, in a tweet.

Yogesh Tunda was lodged in Jail No 8 while Tilly was lodged in Jail No 9. They allegedly cut the iron grille installed on the first floor and used sheets to climb down to the ground floor before attacking Tajpuriya with an improvised sharp object, another official said.

According to a report in PTI, gangster Gogi was shot dead by two assailants dressed as lawyers inside the Rohini court complex in September 2021. The assailants were then killed in retaliatory firing by the police.

"Yogesh alias Tunda and Deepak alias Teetar attacked Tillu Tajpuriya by breaking the iron grills of the ward which separated both gangs in the same ward," the official said.
