Jailed gangster Atiq Ahmed disallowed to attend son's funeral

Dreaded gangster Atiq Ahmed has been denied permission by a court to attend the funeral of his son Asad, who was killed in an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Jhansi. Another accused in the case, Ghulam, was also killed in an encounter led by Deputy SP Navendu and Deputy SP Vimal.

The body of Asad was taken in an ambulance after he was killed in an encounter.

The police had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information on Asad and Ghulam who were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case.

Atiq Ahmed's family has been in the radar of the Uttar Pradesh police for the last decade. At present, there's no one in Atiq's family to claim Asad's body. Atiq, his brother Khalid Azeem aka Ashraf and sons Ali and Umar are all in jail.

According to latest reports, Shaista Parveen, wife of accused Atiq Ahmed who is on the run with a reward of Rs 50,000 on her head is planning to surrender. She will surrender in the court to attend the funeral of son Asad.

Who will claim Asad Ahmed's body?

According to reports, Asad's maternal grandparents or one of the three aunts who were not named in the murder of Umesh Pal may claim the body. Asad's body has been taken to the mortuary in Jhansi for a post-mortem examination.

On February 24 this year, Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal, was shot dead outside his home in Prayagraj. His family accused Atiq, his wife Shahista Parveen, brother Ashraf and Asad among those responsible for the murder.

Based on a complaint lodged by Umesh Pal's wife Jaya Pal, a case was registered on February 25 against Ahmad, Ashraf, their family members and others.

The FIR was lodged under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapons), 149 (unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. Ahmad is also an accused in the 2005 Raju Pal murder case.
