Tanuku (Andhra Pradesh), Feb 1: YSR Congress leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday started a two-day hunger strike seeking the Chandababu Naidu government to implement loan waivers for farmers.

During the strike named Rytu Deeksha, Jagan Mohan Reddy said the government had failed to help the farmers resulting in their suicides.

Eight-six farmers have committed suicide in the state in the past few months after they either failed to get their loans waived or get a fresh loan. Those present at the strike venue also observed a two-minute silence in the memory of the farmers who had committed suicide.

YSR leaders said they were protesting against the Naidu government's failed loan waiver scheme for the farmers offered by it for acquiring land for the proposed capital of the state, a News Minute report said.

The party also sought the expenditure list for all the foreign trips made by Chief Minister Naidu and also targeted his government over issues like empty coffers and erosion of beach roads.

"Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu had promised to waive loan for both farmers and DWACRA (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) groups though it was not feasible. But after coming to power in the state, Naidu has failed to fulfil his promises," the Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly said, according to a PTI report.
