Jabariya Jodi! Bride's Family Kidnaps Bihar Teacher Going To School, Forced To Tie Knot At Gunpoint

Avnish Kumar was kidnapped and forced into marriage in Bihar, highlighting the troubling rise of Pakadwa Vivah incidents. Conflicting allegations complicate the investigation.

Avnish Kumar, a newly appointed teacher in Bihar, was recently involved in a shocking incident. While on his way to work, his e-rickshaw was intercepted by two Scorpios. A group of men emerged, armed and threatening, leading to Avnish's kidnapping. Within hours, he was forced into marriage with a woman he allegedly had a long-term relationship with.

This incident is part of a troubling trend known as 'Pakadwa Vivah' in Bihar. In 2024, the state saw the highest number of such forced marriages in three decades. These weddings involve coercing unmarried men into matrimony at gunpoint. The police have been grappling with this issue as cases continue to rise.

Details of the Incident

Avnish Kumar hails from Rajaura in Begursarai district and is the son of Sudhakar Rai. He was reportedly kidnapped by relatives of Gunjan, a woman from Lakhisarai district. Gunjan claimed they were in a serious relationship for four years, involving frequent visits and shared stays at Avnish's residence.

Gunjan alleged that Avnish had promised marriage and family life but later refused when approached by her family. "He had promised to marry me and start a family," she stated. "We were in love for four years." This refusal led to the drastic actions taken by Gunjan's family.

The Forced Marriage

Three days before the incident, Gunjan's family found the couple together in Katihar. They allegedly kidnapped Avnish and conducted a forced marriage ceremony at a temple. A video circulating online shows Avnish being held by several men while Gunjan stands nearby in wedding attire.

Avnish appeared visibly distressed during the ceremony, as he was coerced into completing marriage rituals against his will. The video has sparked outrage and highlighted the severity of forced marriages in Bihar.

The Aftermath

Following the forced wedding, Gunjan accompanied her family to Avnish's home in Rajaura. However, chaos erupted when Avnish managed to escape. Upon her arrival at his house, Avnish's family refused to accept her as part of their household.

Gunjan has since filed a complaint with the police seeking justice for what she claims was an unfulfilled promise of marriage by Avnish. Meanwhile, Avnish has denied any romantic involvement with Gunjan.

Diverging Allegations

"I had no love for that girl," Avnish asserted. "She harassed me by repeatedly calling and stalking me." He recounted being kidnapped on his way to school and forcibly married under duress. He has also lodged a complaint alleging kidnapping and physical assault.

The case highlights the complexities surrounding 'Pakadwa Vivah' incidents in Bihar. Both parties have presented conflicting narratives about their relationship and subsequent events leading up to the forced marriage.

The authorities are investigating these allegations as they seek justice for both individuals involved while addressing broader concerns about forced marriages within society.
