Jaan zyada zaroori hai, says Dy CM of J&K on internet suspension
The Jammu and Kashmir government said that the decision to ban internet services in Kashmir was to control the cycle of violence.
Srinagar, April 27: Citing the reason behind month-long ban on internet services in Kashmir, deputy chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Nirmal Singh, told reporters that the decision was taken under compulsion.
"Life is more important. The government of Jammu and Kashmir has taken the decision under compulsion. (Jaan zyada zaroori hai, sarkaar ko majboori mein ye karna pada)," said Singh.

He added, "Social media was being misused and groups operating from Pakistan are regulating and inciting the youths." On Wednesday evening, the state government has ordered suspension of internet services in the trouble-hit valley for a period of one month or till further orders.
In an order, the home department has said that internet services in Kashmir valley shall not be transmitted for a period of one month or till further orders. The state home department invoked powers conferred on it under the Indian Telegraph Act and Information Technology Act to suspend the internet services, said an official.
It was not immediately clear whether the order pertains to all internet services or just the mobile internet services, which are already suspended since April 17. The mobile internet services in Kashmir were snapped last Monday following widespread student protests in the valley against alleged highhandedness of security forces.
The move comes amidst disturbances in Kashmir, which the authorities believe are fanned through social media.
