J&K- Uri attack emanated from Pakistan

The Uri attack at Jammu and Kashmir is part of Pakistan's ongoing programme to keep the Valkey on the boil.

Pakistan which has funding the unrest since July 9 had also ensured that terrorists infiltrated in large numbers to carry out terror attacks in the Valley, intelligence bureau officials say.

Sources say that the four terrorists may have infiltrated a few days back. It was a pre planned strike officials also say. There were however no specific alerts from the intelligence bureau regarding this attack.

Officials have been saying that since the unrest began several terrorists had infiltrated into the South of Kashmir. While security forces were busy controlling the stone peltets terrorists took advantage of the situation and managed to infiltrate. Army officials also confirm the huge presence of terrorists in the Valley since the unrest.

An official statement on today's attack stated that in the early hours of 18 September 2016, a group of heavily armed terrorists targeted the rear administrative base of a unit at Uri, Kashmir.

In the counter action, four terrorists have been eliminated and combing operations are in progress. The administrative base had large strength of troops of units turning over after their tour of duty who were stationed in tents/temporary shelters which caught fire, and resulted in heavy casualties. We salute the sacrifice of 17 soldiers who were martyred in the operation, the statement also read.
