J&K: Fierce encounter underway; one jawan killed

Srinagar, April 2: A police official was killed and two soldiers were injured on Thursday in a fierce gunbattle between guerrillas and security forces in Kashmir's Baramulla district, a police official said.

The senior police officer told IANS in Srinagar that security forces on Thursday morning surrounded a house in village Hardashuru, Tangmarg, after receiving information about militants hiding there.

"As the security forces closed on the militants, they started indiscriminate firing at the security forces, triggering a shootout," the official added.

"One SPO (Special Police Officer) has been killed and two army soldiers were injured."
