The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet on Tuesday directed the security forces to exercise maximum restraint while handling civilians.

Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had earlier asked the security forces to 'exercise maximum restraint while operating in provocative situations'. Mehbooba had also condemned the killing of Bashir Ahmad, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Qasbayar in Pulwama .

The government earlier decided that it would introduce plastic bullets to counter the stone pelters in Jammu and Kashmir. Home Ministry officials said that the non-penetrative plastic bullets may be used in Jammu and Kashmir for crowd control or stone-pelting.

The security forces who battle stone pelters and bombers in the Valley have been criticised for using pellet guns. The government was working on an alternative.
