J&K: Bus Plunges Into Gorge, Leaving 2 Dead And 25 Injured

At least two people lost their lives, and 25 others were injured when a bus veered off the road and fell into a 200-feet-deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district on Saturday. The accident occurred near Bhatyas around 10:25 am while the bus was travelling from Bhalessa to Thathri.

"Two people were killed in the accident. Four were critically injured, and five others were referred to the hospital. We have referred a total of nine people to the GMC (Government Medical College) Doda," said Doda deputy commissioner Harvinder Singh to ANI. "The reason for the accident seems to be a malfunction in the bus... The driver tried his best to avoid the accident. We appreciate his efforts. However, we lost two lives in the accident. A total of 26 people were injured, including two children... We have referred serious patients to GMC Doda," he added.

Recent Accidents in Jammu and Kashmir

The incident comes just a day after another vehicle skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge in Poonch district of J&K, resulting in the deaths of a mother-son duo. According to PTI, this vehicle was a Bolero car carrying eight passengers from Surankote to Srinagar when it met with the accident at Pannar.

On July 9, three individuals died, and three others were critically injured when their car plunged into a deep gorge in Kishtwar district. This mishap took place near Sounder in the remote Dachhan area around 5:45 pm. Officials reported that rescuers retrieved three bodies from the scene while evacuating three other passengers who were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Previous Incidents

On June 30, another tragic incident occurred when a man and his son died, and his wife sustained serious injuries after their car fell into a gorge in Rajouri district. Shakeel Ahmad from Krag Mohra village was travelling with his wife Shamim Akhter and son Mohd Mukhtar from Kotranka towards Shahpur when their vehicle met with this unfortunate accident.

The nine other injured persons from Saturday's bus accident are currently receiving treatment at Government Medical College in Doda. This series of accidents highlights ongoing safety concerns on these roads.
