J&K assembly to act against VK Singh for not responding to summons
New Delhi, Jan 10: Jammu and Kashmir assembly has decided to act against former army chief Gen VK Singh after he failed to answer the summons sent on Jan 10.

The summons sent by J&K legislative council's privileges committee over V K Singh's remarks regarding alleged payoffs to the state's politicians since 1947.

Singh had written to the panel in response to an earlier summon. The fresh summon was sent via Haryana police chief asking the ex-Army chief to appear before the committee on January 22 in Jammu to explain his position on the issue. Ruling National Conference MLC Devinder Singh Rana had moved a motion against Singh and sought his appearance before the panel.

The breach of privilege motion is pending against Singh with assembly speaker Mubarak Gul. Sources said the ex-army chief, who was supposed to appear before the committee on Thursday, had sent retired Col UB Singh to represent him. Gul had earlier summoned Singh to appear before the house committee in connection with his comments in October. He had written to the speaker on November 19 and pleaded the privilege motion be dropped as "various quotes attributed to him are inaccurate and incorrect".
