J&K: Army Jawan Dies By Suicide While On Duty In Ramban Camp

A soldier allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his service rifle at an Army camp in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Sunday, officials said.

The jawan has been identified as Sepoy Vijay Kumar, who was posted with the 26 Rashtriya Rifles. According to officials, the incident took place around 3:40 am while he was on sentry duty at the Dharmund military hospital located within the Army camp.

Following the incident, his body was shifted to the Ramban district hospital, where a post-mortem will be conducted. Officials said that Kumar was a native of Rajasthan and had rejoined duty on March 28 after availing nearly two months of leave.

The reason behind the suicide is not known at this point. An internal inquiry has been initiated to understand the circumstances that may have led to the incident.
