According to all the exit poll predictions--announced on Thursday-- the BJP would emerge as the single largest party in UP. Two exit poll results gave the party a complete sweep to form the next government in the state. Three results--HuffPost-CVoter, MRC-NewsX and Lokniti-ABP--gave the BJP fewer than 200 seats in UP, while Times Now-VMR gave the party between 190-210 seats. However, Today's Chanakya and India Today - Axis My India gave the party a massive majority. In UP, a party needs 202 seats to form the government.
Earlier, senior BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi has said that the people of the state have decided not to support any alliance (the Samajwadi Party-Congress) in the state. Expressing confidence, Lekhi said that the BJP would form the next government in the state with absolute majority.
On Thursday, Bollywood actress and Mathura MP Hema Malini said that the saffron party has worked extremely hard to ensure that the results are in its favour this time.
"What is better to know than the fact that BJP is winning as per the exit polls? I have done quite a lot of campaign; we have all worked very hard for the election," she said.
