IT employees get go ahead to set up trade union in Karnataka

The formation of the Karnataka State IT/ITES Employees Union (KITU) was certified under the Trade Union Act, 1926 and Karnataka Trade Unions Regulations, 1958.

Out of the 4 million employees in the IT and IT-enabled service sectors across the country, Bengaluru alone has 1.5 million of them. This large number in fact facilitated the approval for a trade union.

The need for a union became necessary as many employees in this sector have been turning to the courts seeking redressal of their grievances such as long working hours and indiscriminate layoffs.
