IT Dept to support EC in poll process in TN, Puducherry

Chennai, Mar 16: The Income Tax department, as part of supporting the Election Commission in conducting free and fair polls in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on May 16, has set up a 24x7 control room and a toll free number for controlling 'unaccounted cash' during the election process.

"The Election Commission has sought the assistance of the Investigation directorate of the Income Tax department. The role of the directorate is to provide assistance for free and fair elections in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry by controlling the role of unaccounted funds in election process," Income Tax, Investigation Directorate, Additional Director, V Roy Jose said in an official release.

As part of this initiative, the Director General of Income Tax Investigation, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, has set up a 24x7 control room with toll free number 1800 425 6669 and fax 044 - 28278799 to receive information and complaints.

Persons with knowledge of storage or movement of large amount of cash are requested to pass on the information through the facilities available, he said. Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will go to the polls on May 16.
