‘Israel loves Bollywood, I love Bollywood': Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday evening met leading figures from the Indian film industry at an event called 'Shalom Bollywood' in Mumbai.

Eminent film personalities like Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Karan Johar, Subhash Ghai, Imtiaz Ali, Ronnie Screwvala, Sara Ali Khan and others were among those who met Netanyahu and his wife Sara.

The much-anticipated event was held at a south Mumbai five-star hotel.

Netanyahu, in his address, said, "I learnt that Amitabh Bachchan has a larger fan following than me on social media.You guys are a big deal. The world loves Bollywood. We love Bollywood. We want Bollywood in Israel."

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also attended the Shalom Bollywood event.

"Indian cinema has gone truly global, it is liked in every part of the world," Fadnavis said.

Netanyahu landed at the airport in Mumbai on Wednesday night for the Mumbai leg of his six-day India visit.

Earlier in the day, Netanyahu met Mumbai 26/11 terror attack survivor Moshe Holtzberg at Nariman House. Moshe and the Israeli PM inaugurated 26/11 memorial at Chabad House.

Netanyahu today praised the Jewish community for helping strengthen ties between his country and India. Interacting with members of the community at the iconic Taj hotel overlooking the Arabia sea, Netanyahu praised their contribution in preserving Jewish culture. He also thanked and acknowledged the community members of cementing India-Israel relations.
