A Congress functionary has written to the state's top police official, urging enhanced protection for the actor-turned-politician.

Letter to Tamil Nadu Police Highlights Threat Perception

In a letter addressed to the Director General of Police, the Congress leader expressed apprehension that Vijay could be facing threats to his life. The functionary also claimed that his police protection had been withdrawn and called for immediate action.

"Vijay might be facing threats to his life. I got to learn that Vijay's police protection has been withdrawn. I request to provide highest possible protection to TVK Chief Vijay and senior leaders of Congress," he reportedly wrote.

The letter urged authorities to provide the highest level of security not only to Vijay but also to senior Congress leaders in the state, citing the current political climate.

Police Clarify Security Status

However, police officials have clarified that Vijay's security cover has not been withdrawn. According to officials, the convoy vehicles provided to him after the election results were returned at his own request, not removed by authorities.

The security arrangements, including personnel deployment, remain in place as per protocol.

Why Vijay Returned Official Convoy

Following his party's strong performance in the Assembly elections, Vijay was offered chief minister-level convoy vehicles as part of standard protocol.

But the TVK clarified that Vijay chose to return these vehicles. The party stated that he prefers to accept full official security only after formally taking oath and forming the government.

This decision was described as a personal choice, reflecting his approach to public office.

Despite returning the convoy, police continued to maintain security around Vijay's residence in Panaiyur and during his movements.

When Vijay met Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to stake claim to form the government, security arrangements were in place. However, he chose not to use official vehicles during the visit.
