Is This ‘One Nation, One Husband’ Scheme? Bhagwant Mann Slams BJP, PM Modi For Turning 'Sindoor' Into Joke

In a rather weird statement, Punjab Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Bhagwant Mann accused the BJP of trivialising sindoor and mockingly questioned whether the ruling party was pushing a "one nation, one husband" agenda.

"The BJP is campaigning for votes using Operation Sindoor. They've turned sindoor into a joke. They're sending it to every household. Are people now expected to apply sindoor in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's name? Is this a 'one nation, one husband' scheme?" Mann said.

The Punjab Chief Minister made these comments during a media interaction in response to a query about BJP workers canvassing ahead of the Ludhiana bypolls using Operation Sindoor.

The BJP recently launched a nationwide campaign highlighting the Modi government's counter-offensive under Operation Sindoor, a response to the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were killed.

Reports surfaced suggesting the party intended to send vermilion (sindoor) to households as part of this drive, although the Press Information Bureau later dismissed those claims.

Previously, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had criticised Prime Minister Modi for naming the operation Sindoor.

"The name 'Operation Sindoor' was their invention. It was politically driven. I refrained from commenting earlier, especially when delegations were visiting other countries to represent India's position. But today, the Prime Minister visited West Bengal for political propaganda," Banerjee stated.

She further said, "First, he called himself a tea-seller. Then, he described himself as a chowkidaar. Now, he's here to sell sindoor."

Following India's airstrikes in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, multiple reports suggested it was Prime Minister Modi who chose the name Operation Sindoor.

In Hindi, sindoor refers to vermilion, traditionally worn by Hindu married women. The name was reportedly chosen to reflect the grief of women whose husbands were brutally killed.

An image released by the Indian Army following the strikes bore the words Operation Sindoor in bold.
