Is Crime Against Women Higher In BJP-Ruled States? Ashok Gehlot Tweets Data

As the BJP attacked the Rajasthan government over the law and order situation in the state, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot shared the central government's data to corner the saffron party.

He quoted the data from the National Crimes Record Bureau to state that the crime against women is actually higher in the BJP-ruled states. He claimed that the highest number of rapes takes place in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh.

  1. In crimes against women per lakh population, BJP-ruled Assam, Delhi with Union Territory Police, Haryana are in the top 5 states in the country.
  2. Maximum cases of rape with women are in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh.
  3. BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh is at the forefront of the country in murder, crime against women and kidnapping.
  4. In the case of rape of minors i.e. POSCO Act, Madhya Pradesh ranks first in the country while Rajasthan ranks 12th.
  5. In comparison to 2019 in the NCRB report, crimes against women have decreased in Rajasthan in 2021 while crimes increased in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, and Himachal Pradesh.
  6. The whole world has seen the kind of incidents that have happened with women in Manipur.
  7. ABVP office bearers and workers are accused in rape cases in Jodhpur.
  8. Despite the policy of compulsory registration of FIR in Rajasthan, about five per cent less crimes have been registered in 2021 as compared to 2019 while 17 states and union territories including MP, Haryana, Gujarat, and Uttarakhand have registered more crimes.

The Rajasthan Chief Minister further said that the BJP targeted his government to divert attention from the failures of Manipur and BJP-ruled states.

    Following the viral video of two women being paraded naked in Manipur, the BJP raised the issue of crime against women in states such as Bengal and Rajasthan.

    "In Rajasthan, 33,000 rape cases have been reported. The Congress only sees rape in Manipur. Why is Sonia Gandhi silent against atrocities happening in Rajasthan?" Union minister Anurag Thakur has said.
