Yogi Adityanath Describes Sharda Sinha's Death as Irreparable Loss to Music World
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the passing of folk singer Sharda Sinha. He described her death as an irreplaceable loss to the music world. Sinha, who was 72, passed away at AIIMS-Delhi on Tuesday night. She had been receiving treatment there for health issues related to multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer.

Adityanath shared his condolences on social media platform X, stating, "The demise of renowned folk singer, Padma Bhushan Dr. Sharda Sinha ji is extremely sad and an irreparable loss for the entire music world. Humble tribute to her!" He praised her for promoting many folk languages through her traditional singing.
Legacy of Sharda Sinha in Folk Music
Sinha was widely recognised for her contributions to Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Maghahi folk music. Her songs were especially popular during cultural events like Chhath Puja and weddings in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Known as Bihar Kokila, she was celebrated for her unique voice and dedication to preserving folk traditions.
Some of her well-loved songs include "Chhathi Maiya Aayi Na Duaariya," "Kartik Maas Ijoriya," "Dwar Chekai," "Patna Se," and "Koyal Bin." These tracks have left a lasting impact on the cultural landscape of her native region.
Health Struggles and Hospitalisation
Sinha had been battling multiple myeloma since 2017. Last month, she was admitted to the intensive care unit at the Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital (IRCH), part of AIIMS, due to complications from her illness. Despite being on ventilator support, she continued to fight bravely until her passing.
Adityanath also offered prayers for strength to Sinha's family and fans during this difficult time. He acknowledged the immense void left by her departure and hoped they find solace in her musical legacy.
The music community mourns the loss of Sharda Sinha, whose work transcended regional boundaries and touched many hearts. Her contribution to Indian folk music remains invaluable, ensuring that her legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
