Iron Pillar Grid Collapses on Busy Road in Karnataka, Video Goes Viral

A metal grid supporting an overhead railway bridge collapsed in the middle of a busy road in Hubballi, Karnataka, on Tuesday afternoon. The incident was captured on video, and it shows the pillar tilting and then collapsing all at once. The incident occurred around 12:30 pm on Tuesday afternoon.

The collapse narrowly missed a water tanker and a motorist. However, no injuries were reported.

According to a statement from the South Western Railway, a height gauge with a vertical clearance of 4.2 meters had been installed to safeguard Railway Bridge No. 253. It is suspected that a vehicle had collided with the height gauge on previous nights, further weakening the structure.

As a result of the vibrations caused by passing vehicles, the pillar tilted to one side and ultimately collapsed.

The railway said that the structure has been removed and a new height gauge will be installed. Rumble strips and additional signage will also be added to the road to warn drivers of the low clearance.
