IRCTC Tatkal Booking Timing: Has Indian Railways Changed The Online Booking Timings?

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has shot down the rumours of the railways changing the online booking timings of tickets.

IRCTC's Clarification

In a social media post, the IRCTC said that the rumours doing rounds on internet is fake.The message read: "Some information is circulating on social media platforms mentioning different timings for Tatkal and Premium Tatkal tickets. There is no such change in timing currently proposed in the Tatkal or Premium Tatkal booking timing for AC or Non-AC classes." It also added, "Permitted booking timing for agents also remains unchanged."

The IRCTC further stated that the E-tickets for Tatkal can be booked for selective trains one day in advance, excluding the day of the journey from the train's originating station. It further added: "The booking timing will be the same, and tickets can be booked on the opening day from 10:00 hrs for AC class (2A/3A/CC/EC/3E) and at 11:00 hrs for Non-AC (SL/FC/2S)."

IRCTC also confirmed, "If a train is scheduled to depart from the originating station on August 2, Tatkal booking for AC classes will begin at 10:00 AM, while booking for Non-AC classes will start at 11:00 AM on August 1."

The railways reaffirmed that the extra charges are levied at 10% of the basic fare for second class and 30% for all other classes, subject to minimum and maximum limits. The IRCTC stated that price paid for the tatkal tickets are non-refundable.

IRCTC ended on the note that "Tatkal booking facility offers confirmed or waitlisted tickets against the Tatkal quota in any class except 1AC for travel between source/remote stations having a Tatkal quota to the destination."

The detailed statement came after speculations started doing rounds that the IRCTC has made changes to the Tatkal ticket booking timings.
