Intolerance row: After backlash, #IStandWithAamirKhan trends on Twitter!

Bengaluru, Nov 25: Since last two days, Bollywood superstar and Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan is under extreme media and social media criticism and also not only from politicians but also from his co-actors.

Micro-blogging site Twitter was flooded with trending hashtags like #AamirInultsIndia and other hateful hashtags against him. As Aamir was left stumped with his remarks on intolerance, he also found many sympathisers and supporters.

On Wednesday, Nov 25, #IStandWithAamirKhan started trending on Twitter, after 50-year-old actor issued a statement that "he is proud to be and Indian. He loves India and has no intention of leaving the country."

Even famous Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar also gave the actor some solace by tweeting "Aamir is an Indian and his Indian-ness does not rely on anybody's endorsement."

On Tuesday, Nov 24 Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan were among few politicians who defended Khan's statement.

After facing sedition charges, Khan was forced to clarify his controversial remarks and said that his statement was distorted. [Read his Full text of his statement here]
