Instagram’s Threads App Now LIVE In India, Crosses 5 Million Sign Ups In 4 Hours

The launch of Meta's new Twitter-like app Threads has met with a great response from netizens across the globe.

The platform is now available for download in majority of the countries across the globe including India.

Within hours after launch, the new social media app has garnered 5 million sign ups, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted.

"Just passed 5 million sign ups in the first four hours," Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted earlier. In fact, the app was downloaded by two million people in first two hours alone, as per his earlier update.

Meta has positioned this Twitter rival as an extension of Instagram even though it is very much a standalone platform.

"Our vision is to take the best parts of Instagram and create a new experience for text, ideas, and discussing what's on your mind," Zuckerberg said in a Wednesday evening Instagram post.

Posts are limited to 500 characters, which is more than Twitter's 280-character threshold, and can include links, photos and videos up to five minutes long. Instagram users will be able to log in with their existing usernames and follow the same accounts on the new app.

The app hit the market at a time when Twitter CEO introduced dramatic changes to its platforms, preventing free users from viewing more than 800 tweets a day while also revamping its verification system.

As per the estimation, it had around 237.8 million daily active users in 2022.

How To Download Threads?

Netizens can download the app Google Play or Apple App Store and then use the Instagram ID to log in. In case if you already have an Insta account, Threads will only request permission, eliminating the need to reenter login credentials.
