Over 100 Women Begin Their Journey as Naga Sanyasinis at Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj

The Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, has seen the commencement of a significant spiritual event. Over 100 women have begun their journey to become Naga Sanyasini of the Juna Akhada. Divya Giri, a saint at the Shri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhada, mentioned that 102 women received the Naga Diksha in the first phase of this initiation process.

Initiation Process and Traditions

These women, after serving their guru for 12 years, were honoured with the title Avdhutani. As part of the tradition, they wore 2.75-metre unstitched clothes and had their heads shaved. They then took a sacred dip in the Ganga River. Following this ritual, they were given a Kamandal, Ganga jal, and a staff.

Role of Juna Akhada's Leadership

The final steps of their initiation will be conducted by Swami Avadheshanand Giri, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of the Juna Akhada. This ceremony marks an important milestone in their spiritual journey. The involvement of such esteemed leadership underscores the significance of this event.

International Participation

Interestingly, three foreigners also participated in this spiritual initiation. Divya Giri noted that they became members of the Shri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhada. Bankiya Mariam from Italy was renamed Shivani Bharti after receiving the Naga Diksha. Similarly, Bequeven Marie from France is now known as Kamakhya Giri, and Mokshita Rai from Nepal has been named Mokshita Giri.

This initiation process highlights the diverse participation and deep-rooted traditions associated with becoming a Naga Sanyasini. The involvement of international participants adds a unique dimension to this spiritual event, reflecting its universal appeal and significance.
