Indira Amma canteens to be inaugurated tomorrow in Uttarakhand
Dehradun, Nov 18: In order to provide quality food to people at subsidised rates, Uttarakhand government will inaugurate Indira Amma canteens at various places across the state tomorrow on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Chief Minister Harish Rawat will inaugurate these canteens named after the former prime minister at the Doon Hospital and Transport Nagar in the state capital and Pauri whereas his cabinet colleagues will do so in other towns, Rawat's Media In-charge Surendra Kumar said.
Run by trained members of women self-help groups from several districts, the first Indira Amma canteen here is serving subsidized quality food to nearly 900 people per day on an average, Kumar said.
Besides Dehradun and Pauri, the canteens would be inaugurated in Roorkee, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Haldwani, Rudrapur, Pithoragarh, Champavat, Rudraprayag and Chamoli, he said.
Uttarakhand ministers Indira Hridayesh, Harak Singh Rawat, Yashpal Arya, Mantri Prasad Naithani, Harish Chandra Durgapal, Pritam Singh Panwar and Surendra Singh Negi would inaugurate the canteens at various places, the media in-charge said.
