IndiGo Expects Over Rs 500 Crore Compensation Payout After Flight Cancellations
IndiGo on Friday said it expects its total compensation payout to exceed Rs 500 crore following widespread flight cancellations that disrupted operations for nearly a week beginning December 2. The airline said compensation will be provided to passengers whose flights were cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled departure time, as well as to those who were severely stranded at select airports.
In a statement, India's largest airline said it aims to ensure that the compensation process is transparent, simple and hassle-free for affected customers. "We will be providing compensation which, in our current estimation, will be in excess of Rs 500 crores to customers whose flights were cancelled within 24 hours of departure time and or to customers severely stranded at certain airports," the airline said.

IndiGo said its teams are giving priority attention to both refund processing and the disbursal of compensation. The airline noted that its immediate focus through December 2025 is on ensuring that all refunds for impacted passengers are processed efficiently and without delay. It added that most refunds have already been completed, and the remaining transactions are expected to be reflected shortly.
The airline further said it is in the process of identifying flights on which passengers were severely affected and stranded at airports between December 3 and December 5, 2025. IndiGo said it will directly reach out to all such customers during January to facilitate the compensation process in a smooth manner.
The operational disruptions, which led to a large number of flight cancellations, continued for about a week, significantly impacting passenger travel plans.
