Indian Railways Enhances Security Measures for Safe Travel During Festive Rush
Indian Railways is intensifying efforts to ensure passenger safety during the festive season, according to a statement from the Railway Ministry. Managing travel during Diwali and Chhath poses challenges, but after successfully handling Navratri and Durga Puja, Indian Railways is ready to assist commuters in reaching their destinations for these celebrations.

Passengers are encouraged to report any suspicious items on railway premises to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) via helpline 139 or the RailMadad portal. As Diwali nears, bringing increased travel, the RPF has enhanced safety measures for secure train journeys, the ministry stated.
Safety Measures and Campaigns
The RPF has initiated a comprehensive safety drive to mitigate fire hazards and prevent accidents on the railway network. This initiative includes collaboration with various stakeholders in Railways to raise awareness through leaflets, posters, street plays, and public announcements. Social, print, and electronic media are being utilised to reach a broad audience.
Since October 15, luggage inspections and parcel checks have been intensified. Vendors and hawkers using portable stoves are also being monitored to prevent fire risks. The ministry highlighted that 56 individuals have been booked under the Railway Act for carrying hazardous items, while 550 people have been fined for smoking on trains.
Enforcement and Penalties
In addition to these measures, 2,414 individuals have been booked under various provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). These actions underscore the commitment to passenger safety during this festive period.
"Diwali and Chhath are festivals of joy and togetherness, and the safety of our passengers remains our top priority," said Manoj Yadava, Director General of RPF. "We urge passengers to be vigilant and cooperate with our personnel to ensure a secure journey," he added.
The proactive approach by Indian Railways aims to provide a safe travel experience for millions of passengers during this festive season. By implementing these measures and campaigns, they strive to maintain security across the railway network.
