Indian embassy in Khartoum to be temporarily shifted to Port Sudan

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has announced that the Indian embassy in Khartoum will be temporarily relocated to Port Sudan in view of the prevailing security situation in Sudan.

''In view of the prevailing security situation in Sudan, including attacks in Khartoum city, it has been decided that the Indian Embassy in Khartoum will be temporarily relocated to Port Sudan. The situation will be assessed in the light of further developments,''the MEA said in a statement.

India has been carrying out 'Operation Kaveri' to evacuate its citizens from conflict-ridden Sudan and other troubled areas. The evacuation process involves transporting the citizens via buses to the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah, using Indian Air Force's heavy-lift transport aircraft and Indian Navy's ships.

The distance between Khartoum and Port Sudan is approximately 850 km, and the bus travel time varies from 12 to 18 hours, depending on the situation and the time of day.

Sudan has been experiencing deadly clashes between the country's army and a paramilitary group, which has reportedly caused the death of around 400 people. As part of the evacuation process, the tenth batch of 231 Indians reached Gujarat's Ahmedabad today from Saudi Arabia's Jeddah.

The operation aims to ensure the safe return of Indian citizens from conflict zones, and the government has been taking all necessary measures to execute it smoothly.
