Indian Army Jawan Martyred in Ongoing Encounter in J&K’s Udhampur

An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Dudu Basantgarh area of Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Thursday.

According to a statement from the Indian Army's White Knight Corps, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs. "A joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched today in Basantgarh, Udhampur. Contact was established, and a fierce firefight ensued," the statement read.

Tragically, one Indian Army soldier was critically injured during the initial exchange of fire and later succumbed to his injuries despite the best medical efforts.

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said,''Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai is constantly in touch with me and updating about the ongoing armed encounter in the Dudu-Basantgarh area. The DIG and SSP are personally on the spot. Further security measures, as required, are being planned.''

The encounter is part of an ongoing operation under Op Birli Gali. As of now, security forces continue the search and combing efforts in the region.
