Indian Army Inducts First Batch Of Apache Helicopters From US; Major Boost to Combat Power
The Indian Army has officially received the first batch of AH-64E Apache helicopters from the United States, marking a key advancement in its air combat capabilities. The helicopters landed in Jodhpur, where they will undergo assembly and a Joint Receipt Inspection (JRI) before full induction into operational service.
Announcing the development, the Indian Army posted on X (formerly Twitter):
"Milestone moment for Indian Army as the first batch of Apache helicopters for Army Aviation arrive today in India. These state-of-the-art platforms will bolster the operational capabilities of the Indian Army significantly."

Apache Helicopters: Lethal and Advanced
The AH-64E Apache is widely considered one of the most advanced and lethal attack helicopters in the world. Built by Boeing, this combat-proven aircraft is equipped with:
- A 30 mm chain gun for close-range combat
- Hellfire missiles guided by both laser and radar systems
- Rocket pods for striking multiple ground targets simultaneously
The advanced Longbow radar, mounted above the rotor, enabling target detection without exposing the aircraft to threats
Used by elite forces in the U.S., U.K., Israel, Egypt, and now India, the Apache brings formidable air power and tactical flexibility to the battlefield.
India's Apache Acquisition Timeline
India first procured 22 Apache helicopters for the Indian Air Force under a 2015 deal. In a separate agreement, six additional helicopters were ordered for the Army Aviation Corps-the first time these choppers will be operated by the Indian Army directly.
Despite earlier delivery delays due to global supply chain issues, sources confirmed the arrival of the first three units by July 21, with the remaining expected soon.
The first Apache squadron was formally raised in Jodhpur on March 15, setting the stage for these advanced aircraft to be integrated into high-threat combat scenarios in support of ground forces.
