The encounter began around 7:30 am in a dense forested area during a cordon and search operation (CASO) launched by a joint team to track down foreign terrorists hiding in the Shivgarh-Assar region, according to PTI. The terrorists, who had taken shelter in a riverine area in Assar, had crossed into Doda from a forest near Patnitop in the neighboring Udhampur district after a brief exchange of fire with security forces.

The confrontation initially started around 6 pm on Tuesday in Udhampur. It was temporarily halted, and a cordon was established overnight, officials said.

The search operation resumed on Wednesday.

Security forces have recovered four blood-soaked rucksacks and M-4 carbines from the encounter site.
