The Indian Army has taken a significant step in preserving its glorious past by archiving nearly 700 hours of audio-visual content and 11 lakh pages of declassified records related to key conflicts and operations. This initiative, known as Project Shaurya Sankalan, aims to digitally archive military history and make it accessible to researchers, academicians, and scholars.

In a significant effort to preserve the glorious past of the Indian Army, nearly 700 hours of audio-visual content and 11 lakh pages of declassified records related to key conflicts and operations have been archived under Project Shaurya Sankalan: Digital Archiving of Military History of the Army.

Unveiling the Past: Indian Armys Declassified Records Now Digitally Preserved

Declassified Records: A Treasure Trove of History

The declassified records span several crucial events in India's military history, including the 1948 Jammu and Kashmir conflict, the 1961 Goa Liberation Operation VIJAY, and the 1965 and 1971 India-Pakistan wars. These records, held with over 1300 units, formations, regimental centers, and military museums, provide valuable insights into battle memoirs, after-action reports, and audio-visual films.

Digital Archiving: Preserving the Past for the Future

To ensure the preservation and accessibility of these historical records, they have been carefully cured, digitized, and preserved in the Digital Archive Kiosk created at the United Services Institute of India, New Delhi. This initiative aims to provide researchers, academicians, and scholar warriors with easy access to this wealth of information in an interactive web page format.

Expanding Access and Enriching the Ecosystem

In the future, another kiosk will be established at the upcoming History Cell of the Army War College, further expanding access to these valuable records. This digital ecosystem will continue to be enhanced and enriched, serving as a comprehensive resource for understanding the history of the Indian Army.

Conclusion: A Legacy of Valor and Sacrifice

Project Shaurya Sankalan stands as a testament to the Indian Army's commitment to preserving its legacy of valor and sacrifice. By digitizing and archiving these declassified records, the Army ensures that future generations can learn from the past and draw inspiration from the brave men and women who have served the nation.
