India Calls for Strong Measures from Bangladesh to Protect Hindu Community Amid Rising Tensions
India has expressed concern over tensions in Chittagong, Bangladesh, following inflammatory social media posts. The Indian government has urged Bangladesh to act against extremist groups and ensure the safety of its Hindu community. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned the alleged attacks on Hindus in Chittagong, attributing the unrest to provocative online content.

Jaiswal highlighted that it is Dhaka's responsibility to protect minorities. He noted that incendiary posts targeting the Hindu community led to disturbances, with threats made and properties looted. "Extremist elements are behind this," he stated, warning of potential communal tension escalation.
India's Concerns Over Religious Sites
On October 12, India voiced serious concern over reported attacks on a Puja mandap and theft at a Kali temple in Bangladesh. The Indian government urged Dhaka to safeguard Hindus and other minorities, along with their places of worship. Jaiswal emphasized the need for strong measures to ensure their security.
Addressing a query about a statement on Awami League's social media, Jaiswal reiterated India's stance. The statement congratulated President-elect Donald Trump, with "prime minister" in parentheses before Sheikh Hasina's name. Jaiswal clarified that Hasina is a former prime minister of Bangladesh.
Regional Developments and Workshops
Jaiswal also discussed a workshop organized by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) on November 5-6. The event focused on India's experience in constitutionalism and federalism, inviting stakeholders from Myanmar. He expressed hope that such interactions would aid in developing solutions for Myanmar's challenges.
India remains committed to supporting democracy and stability in Myanmar. Jaiswal noted that developments in Myanmar are significant for India and other stakeholders, including academics and businesses.
India-China Border Situation
Regarding the recent disengagement of Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh, Jaiswal provided updates. Patrolling has resumed at Depsang and Demchok as per agreements. He dismissed reports of roadblocks, stating they were incorrect and clarified by the Indian Army.
Jaiswal addressed India-US economic ties, noting ongoing discussions between the two nations. He emphasized the importance of resolving issues to strengthen bilateral relations. "We would want to have talks on the issues," he added, highlighting the goal of enhancing ties.
The Indian government continues to monitor regional developments closely while advocating for peace and stability across borders. Ensuring minority safety remains a priority amid rising tensions in neighbouring countries.
