India Showcases Military Might, Cultural Richness On 76th Republic Day

India is commemorating its 76th Republic Day today with a grand parade along the Kartavya Path, highlighting the nation's military strength and diverse cultural heritage.

This year's celebrations hold particular significance as they mark the platinum jubilee of the Constitution's enactment.

The President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, attended as the chief guest, accompanied by a 352-member Indonesian marching band and contingent, who participated in the parade.

Prior to the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial near India Gate by leading a wreath-laying ceremony.

76th Republic Day Celebrations: 10 Key Highlights

1. Parade Commencement and Attendance:

The Republic Day parade began at 10:30 am, with President Droupadi Murmu taking the salute. Approximately 10,000 special guests attended to witness the occasion.

2. Tableaux Display:

A total of 31 tableaux, comprising 16 from states and Union Territories and 15 from central ministries and organisations, paraded down Kartavya Path. The theme was "Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas" (Golden India: Heritage and Progress).

3. Advanced Defence Systems:

Modern defence equipment, including the BrahMos missile, Pinaka rocket system, and Akash air defence system, were showcased. The Army's Battle Surveillance System 'Sanjay' and DRDO's 'Pralay' tactical missile made their debut.

Other assets displayed included T-90 'Bhishma' tanks, Sarath infantry carrying vehicles, the Nag Missile System, and the vehicle-mounted infantry mortar system, Airawat.

4. Tri-Services Tableau:

For the first time, the three armed services presented a joint tableau symbolising unity. DRDO's tableau, themed "Raksha Kavach" (Defence Shield), highlighted multi-layered protection against diverse threats.

5. Mounted Cavalry and Women's Representation:

The iconic 61 Cavalry, the world's only active horse-mounted cavalry regiment, led the mounted column. Veteran women officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force represented *Nari Shakti* (women's power).

6. Motorcycle Stunt Display:

A daring performance by the Corps of Signals' motorcycle stunt team, a crowd favourite, concluded the 90-minute parade.

7. Air Force Flypast:

The grand finale featured 40 Indian Air Force aircraft, including C-130J Super Hercules, C-17 Globemaster, and Su-30 fighter jets. Three Dornier aircraft from the Indian Coast Guard also participated.

8. Cultural Performances:

Cultural displays from 5,000 performers lined the Kartavya Path, culminating with 300 artists playing "Sare Jahan Se Achha" on traditional instruments from across India.

9. Security Arrangements:

Over 70 companies of paramilitary forces and 70,000 police personnel were deployed in Delhi. Traffic restrictions ensured the smooth progression of events.

10. Enhanced Security Measures:

A six-layered security system was implemented, including 2,500 CCTV cameras with facial recognition, anti-drone systems, rooftop snipers, and restricted access to over 200 buildings along the parade route.
