India’s First Mobile Bathroom For Women Launched In Mumbai

India's first state-of-the-art mobile bathroom for women was inaugurated on Wednesday at Hanuman Nagar, Kandivali East. The event saw the presence of Cabinet Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha and MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar. This innovative initiative, conceptualized by Minister Lodha during his tenure as the Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburban District, has been implemented through the District Planning Committee, according to a Times Now report.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Lodha emphasized the critical need for hygienic bathing facilities for women living in slum areas. "This facility will greatly benefit women, addressing their fundamental need for cleanliness and hygiene. It brings us closer to achieving the vision of a Swachh Bharat (Clean India)," he said, as per the report.

The mobile bathroom, which will operate for 12 hours daily, is designed to serve women in the Kandivali Assembly constituency. Minister Lodha expressed his gratitude to MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar for his support and shared plans to replicate this initiative in other areas.

The mobile facility, designed as a bus, is equipped with five bathrooms featuring showers, basins, and a water storage capacity of 2,100 litres. Additionally, the bus includes two dryer machines for clothes, ensuring a comprehensive solution for women's hygiene needs. Power for the unit is supplied by generators.

To ensure efficient operation and avoid water wastage, female staff will manage the facility. Each user will be allotted 5 to 10 minutes, after which the water supply will automatically stop.

Minister Lodha highlighted the challenges faced by women in slum areas and reaffirmed his commitment to improving their living conditions. "This project is a first in Maharashtra, and we aim to extend it to other parts of the state. I urge women to take full advantage of this facility," he said, according to the same report.

The inauguration marks a significant step towards addressing the basic hygiene needs of women, especially in underserved areas, while reinforcing the government's commitment to creating a cleaner and more inclusive society.
